plot
The world has been thrown into turmoil. Two alien invasions in as many years resulted in thousands of casualties, with both only narrowly beaten back, and dangerous advanced technology falling into unscrupulous hands. Magneto's defeat by the Sentinels drove mutant supremacists to increasingly desperate and savage lengths. Rumors grew of uncanny monsters stalking the shadows and taking the unwary. But, through it all, humanity placed its faith in S.H.I.E.L.D.

And then S.H.I.E.L.D. fell.

CHARACTERS

You may have as many characters as you can keep up with, up to a maximum of six. Preferably they should be from separate groups so you don’t wind up playing with yourself (we all know where that leads), but it isn't required. Keeping up with means each must be in at least one thread and must be active in that thread.

As different threads move at different speeds, the definition of active may vary, but as a general rule you should post within 48 hours of your turn coming up. Posting shouldn't be a chore and running late every now and again will not result in fiery bolts from the heavens, but consistently holding up people rping with you is unfair to them and may lead to your character being placed in the Archive.

Each character must have a separate account. The account name should be the character's first and last name, unless the character only has one name (like Sif).

LIve to Rise is canon-only and set in the Avengers/S.H.I.E.L.D. universe. Characters from the movies Captain America 1 & 2, Thor 1 & 2, Iron Man 1-3, Incredible Hulk, and Avengers are welcome, along with those from the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D tv series. Characters from other Marvel movies, such as X-Men, Daredevil, Spiderman, Fantastic Four, etc. will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Characters from the comics, adapted to the reboot universe, will also be considered on a case-by-case basis.

PLAY

Do not post for a character in the rp areas until that character has been approved.

No god-modding or power gaming. Everybody should know this, yet it's always in the rules anyway. So there it is.

There is no required word count. The only hard minimum is enough-to-move-the-scene-along. Creativity and detail in addition to that are good and most welcome, but nobody should be stuck having to cram in scores of adjectives and extraneous irrelevancies just to pump up "'Sure,' he said," to an arbitrary 400 words. Conversations can be done in chat programs and posted as joint posts.

What is required is a serious effort at proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, spacing, and general coherency. This is a grown-up rp. Everybody makes typos or minor errors now and then, but not all the time. Know the difference between then and than, they're/their/there, etc. Also, if you feel compelled to title posts things like "d r e a m s {of} STEEL f.o.r.g.i.v.e.n.e.s.s." then this isn't the game for you.

RP posts should be in third person past tense. Bold and italic may be used for emphasis, but please no shrinkyfont. It's very hard to read.

All threads should have a header listing Date & Time, Place, and Characters Involved.

You may not kill or permanently cripple a character (including your own) without permission from both the character's player and staff.

RL and technology can be unpredictable. Sometimes it may not be possible to post (or even log in) for a day or three, or even a week. And sometimes players just mysteriously vanish forever, leaving other characters, threads, and plots hanging. In order to distinguish between the two, if you're going to be absent for more than a couple of days, please put up a notice on the Communications board that you'll be gone and when you expect to be able to return.

Activity checks will be done at the end of each month. Any characters whose players have not posted an absence (or otherwise notified staff) will have their accounts deleted and their bios moved to the Archives. Any threads left dangling by their departure may be wrapped up according to wishes of the remaining players in the thread.

CHARACTER CREATION GUIDELINES

We try to be pretty flexible here at Live to Rise, but there are (of course) a few rules and guidelines to be followed.

The first and biggest is L2R is canon-only. Characters can be adapted from Marvel comics, other Marvel movies, even the animated series. They can be minor and/or obscure and you can AU them pretty extensively. But no OCs. Period.

Second, no time travel. Not as a power and not as a part of the backstory. That's not to say you can't play a character who traveled through time in the comics, just see above about AUing. Someone like Bishop, say, could be a modern-day police officer of some sort.

Third, no reality-warping. Minor probability alteration ala the Black Cat is okay, major revisions … not so much. Doesn't matter if it's via mutation, magic, or anything else, just no.

Fourth, try to stick to simple, logical power sets. Even if a character canonically sprouted a new power out of the blue one day, there's a good chance it won't be accepted. 'Secondary mutations' especially will be met with the hairy eyeball.

Fifth, staff reserves the right to say if any given character or power will be unbalanced or disruptive, even if it's not listed above.
