The world has been thrown into turmoil. Two alien invasions in as many years resulted in thousands of casualties, with both only narrowly beaten back, and dangerous advanced technology falling into unscrupulous hands. Magneto's defeat by the Sentinels drove mutant supremacists to increasingly desperate and savage lengths. Rumors grew of uncanny monsters stalking the shadows and taking the unwary. But, through it all, humanity placed its faith in S.H.I.E.L.D.

And then S.H.I.E.L.D. fell.

We are looking for Melinda May, Jemma Simmons, T'Challa, Karl Mordo, Hank McCoy, Lucas Bishop, Dr. Doom, X-Men, Inhumans,

Paige had yet to see a truly big city. Raised in a little valley with a whopping population of 800 spread amongst a few central areas and homesteads, the idea of a city holding more people than some countries was unimaginable. So when she got the chance to visit it, she insisted on being allowed to come along on a trip one of the X-Men had to go on. Scott was awkward the entire time but Paige didn't really care that much. Getting to visit the big city was more than enough.

And the big city was, in fact, huge. Paige was a little bit intimidated, to be honest. She had never seen anything like this except in pictures, and those hadn't nearly captured what the place looked like. Or sounded or smelled. The latter wasn't something she'd really expected but she could get over that. Most importantly, the place was big and amazing. It wasn't too far from the school, either, even though a long day trip (or two-day trip) would be necessary to really see anything. Such trips were rare, though, so the thought excited her more than anything else.

Which was also what made it a little scary. So naturally veering off the main streets into a quieter section was what she needed to do. And she wasn't particularly worried about whether or not she got into a seedier part of town. Her mutation would keep her from getting hurt if things turned bad. One of the convenience stores supplied a soda, and she continued on her way. She knew she picked up some attention along the way, since she was a pretty girl out on her own, but she ignored the guys unless they came close. Most of them seemed to be admiring from a distance, but she wouldn't put it past one of them to try something.

Pretty soon the noise and activity of the busy streets attracted her back into the thick of things again. She was glad she didn't have a bag or anything on her that would attract pickpockets - her cell was in her front left pocket and her wallet in her right. That was all she had on her, since she didn't really need anything else. She and Scott were supposed to meet up at the hotel around six, but until then, she was free to be on her own. And very clearly a girl not used to big cities like this one, even if she didn't quite give off the typical tourist vibe. Still, it was a long ways away from home.

There was someone at the school that Paige hadn't made friends with yet and she'd decided to rectify that problem. And not just because she'd heard a couple of guys discussing that she was, quote, 'hella cute'. Okay maybe that was part of it. But it was also that Paige honestly did try to be friendly with everyone at the school and Ellie was supposedly not a douche. Whether she was nice or not, Paige didn't know, but there you were. She'd grabbed a couple quarts of chocolate ice cream and a six-pack of Heineken since she'd already been out earlier that day, and had headed homeward with the intention of sharing it with whoever first came her way looking like they had nothing to do.

Since it was Friday night, most of the teen-and-up crew were planning on going out, evidently, so overhearing that Ellie was in the house was practically an invitation. One that had, as it was, not been issued by the girl herself. But oh well. What was the worst she could say besides no? It wasn't like her grey sweatpants and t-shirt made her look like she was on her way out to party.

Knocking on the bedroom door, Paige yelled a hello to someone down the hallway and waved back to them, though she didn't wander off to say hi to them. They could catch up later. "Heya. If you're not busy tonight I have offerings. Booze, ice cream, and ridiculous movies to mock. And half a bottle of Jameson in my room if you like something stronger." Even if Queen of the Damned might be some peoples' favourite... Well, she mostly just found it hilarious, even if that outfit Queen Akasha wore at the bar was kind of pretty. Getting back on topic, though. She'd stopped by to make friends and hopefully she'd pull it off.

New kids always interested Paige. There were so many ways that the X-gene could be expressed, and it seemed like no two students were alike. Most of them didn't even have the same mutations as their parents or siblings. Similar ones, in many cases, but very rarely identical. But this newcomer had no family, much less any mutant family, so she was even more curious about him.

Especially when she heard that the dude was on fire all the time. That couldn't be literal. Or maybe it was, she realised a couple days after hearing about him. While her own mutation was easy to hide, clearly Ben's was not. "You've gotta be the new kid," she stated. "Heya, Fire Boy."

Her years at the school had only half-dulled her native Kentucky accent, and had done nothing to polish her manners. She could be polite around company, but when it just came to family/friends/schoolmates, there was nothing to be said about it. Walking in, she grabbed a chair and turned it around so she could straddle it backwards. Paige crossed her arms across the back and rested her chin on them. "So you really are on fire, huh. I wasn't expecting that, I've gotta say."

Because, seriously, even at a mutant school, you didn't come across many people like that. So far, one. Although the Summers boys came kind of close with their energy blasts, it was not really comparable to your appearance being a fiery inferno 24/7. Or so she assumed. What reason was there for him to be on fire while at home? Unless he'd wanted to heat up a Pop-Tart or something. Come to think of it, that could be a handy side effect of what he could do.

"My name's Paige. Paige Guthrie. Me an' my brother've been here a few years. Came from a big family down in Kentucky. What about you?" Because of course he would want to talk to her and welcome the invasion of his privacy. She was used to the close-knit small town she'd grown up in and the equally tight school she currently lived in.

Paige was raised in a hard-working community, and has the muscles to prove it. Her hair is naturally blond but lately she's taken to dying it brown. Her eyes remain blue, however, and as she has no love of high heels, her height is fairly consistent at 5'7". She doesn't make friends easily, choosing acquaintances, but has a ready smile and open disposition that makes most first impressions of her include words such as 'sweet' and 'friendly'.

<tr><td colspan="4"><h3>PERSONALITY</h3></td></tr><tr><td colspan="4"><h2><div id="txtbox">

Paige has always been an overachiever. She wanted something that would make her stand out from among her large family, and as an almost obsessive student, which resulted in very good grades. However, it wasn't until she discovered her mutation at the age of thirteen that she finally felt comfortable in her own skin - ironic as her powers allowed her to remove it. She's honest to the point of being blunt and quickly tires of sugarcoating or beating around the bush. Ripping off the band-aid is her style. <p>

Her family raised her to be a polite young lady with a strong work ethic, always ready to lend a hand in any way she could. Some of her manners or ideals might be considered old-fashioned but she would sort of consider it turning her back on her upbringing if she adopted looser morals. Aforementioned family is very important to her despite some occasional stressors with her home life, and while she's slow to make friends, she's very loyal and close to those she accepts as such. <p>

She's not without her problems, however. Her insecurity and depression are a potent combination when they strike, but she has never admitted to having either of them. Instead she chooses to pass off such times as her being lazy, careless, etc., which has led to some strife in the past. There are a few who have considered her to have a shallow character or weak ethics because of it but she personally considers it shameful to have such problems, though she's supportive of others who confess to the same, a rare bit of hypocrisy.

<tr><td colspan="4"><h3>BIOGRAPHY</h3></td></tr>

<tr><td colspan="4"><h1>PAST</h1></td><tr><td colspan="4"><h2><div id="txtbox">

Paige was the second oldest child of a large mining family in Kentucky. Becoming depressed when her older brother Sam developed a mutation, she believed she was inferior without one herself. At the age of thirteen she put herself through experiments and tests in an attempt to discover her mutation. Originally they all failed and Paige's depression and frustration grew. <p>

Eventually they paid off and she discovered that she had the ability to tear off her skin and reveal a new layer underneath. Paige was overjoyed at this discovery though she originally kept it from everyone she knew, unsure of how to show them without panicking them. Despite desperately wanting to be a superhero and share her abilities with everyone, she valued her relationship with her family and didn't want to risk them fearing her. <p>

However, she was proud of herself and what she could do, and left home to join the X-Men like her brother. Most of her family is unaware of the nature of her mutation, and she received mixed reactions from those whom she told. She is still very proud of her abilities despite that and is determined to become even better and more powerful. She remains a student at XI despite being an X-Men and is studying for a degree in literature.

<tr><td colspan="4"><h1>FUTURE</h1></td><tr><td colspan="4"><h2><div id="txtbox">

As an NPC, not much to go here. But I would definitely love some plot ideas if we ever got a Sam Guthrie on site. She'll take some convincing that humans aren't all bad due to the reception she's gotten from them the few times she's used her powers around them.

<tr><td height="10"></td></tr>

<tr><td colspan="4"><h3>SAMPLE RP</h3></td></tr><tr><td colspan="4"><h2><div id="txtbox">

Paige was not ashamed of being a mutant, or of the (okay, slightly disgusting) mutation she had. And she was aware that humans had a remarkable potential to be small-minded and afraid of things, and that a superior race of mutants should make allowances for those types of people. But this? Ridiculous. Tear off some skin, put yourself in harm's way to do some good and save some lives, and your reward is cops threatening to shoot you. <p>

"Wouldn't recommend that if I were you," she said, Kentucky drawl undermining her half-tense tone. "I'm not exactly bulletproof but I can guarantee it'll hurt all a' y'all more than it'll hurt me." Not exactly true, as she'd just run for it if shot at rather than causing an even bigger incident. <p>

Turning her back on the officers, she walked back through the scattered pieces of vehicles, the ambulances' sirens still screaming at ear-splitting decibels. God, those things were annoying. Not that she'd grown up in a quiet place despite Cumberland County not being anything like New York. XI was hardly in the big city but it wasn't remote, either. She hadn't been intending on returning there, but it seemed as though she might have to now. No doubt Sam would be happy to see her, the thought of her sibling bringing a brief flame of warmth to her heart, but after her last depressive episode she'd been trying to stay away from the place.
